If someone is really good at PhotoShop it can be done, but how many would spend that kind of time to keep from purchasing an image.

Always Gary, I remember looking at a thread on here once where a few took on the challenge of removing watermarks...I was pretty amazed at the talent!!! They did them quick and there was not incentive, so it scared me to think what someone could do with some time and some financial incentive. But you can't make yourself crazy...do the best you can to protect yourself...

Gary, the best and easiest way is to call the photographer who put the watermark on there and ask him/her for a clean photo. Trying to photoshop it will never be the same, and it's illegal without the photographer's approval.

On another forum, a photographer posted a link to an image and challenged the members to lift it and remove the watermark. He thought he'd found the best way to protect his images.

It wasn't ten minutes before his image, minus watermark, started appearing from numerous sources.

It's like counterfeiting currency. There's always somebody who can figure out how to do it.

In smugmug, if a photo is enlarged to its original size the watermark comes off. All you need to do is a screen save and cut the photo out. And, you will have a photo minus the watermark.

This needs to be fixed.

That's why I never let them see anything bigger than the smallest size...

Is there a way to go in and change the view from original to smallest size on all the pictures at once?

Yep. It's one of the settings in the "Customize" section for each gallery.

Yes, you definitely NEED to turn off "originals" from being viewed. We never watermark Original sizes you upload because we use them to print from.

in the custom settings you can limit the size available to the viewer. Limit them to 1x or 2x for example. If you're giving up the right click protection to a client but not the full size print, that's still plenty big enough for them to use on Myspace or something and it can still have your watermark. Do not make the original available unless you want them to have it.
