Sony 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 DT Kit Lens DISCONTINUED

(NOTE: This lens is optically identical to the Minolta 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 DT Kit Lens)

Description:

The SAL-1870 AF DT 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6(D) lens from Sony is a compact, wide-angle to mid-telephoto zoom lens specifically designed for the Sony Alpha and Minolta Digital SLR cameras. Optics have been optimized for a small diameter image circle in order to work with the APS-C size CCD used with digital SLR cameras. When used with a digital SLR camera, the equivalent focal length for this lens is 27-105mm, ideal for snapshots, portraits, interiors and more - an excellent all-around lens to travel with.

Note! Not compatible with 35mm or "full-frame" digital SLR cameras
  • DT lenses employ a new optical system that is specifically designed for digital SLR cameras which incorporate an APS-C size CCD image sensor.
  • ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass to reduce chromatic aberration at telephoto extension, correcting certain wavelengths of light for sharp, clear images with well defined colors.

Performance:
  • Filter Size 55mm
  • f/Stop Range 3.5-22/5.6-36
  • Minimum Focus Distance 15" (0.38 m)
  • Magnification 1:4
  • Angle of View 76 - 23°
  • Groups/Elements 9/11

Features:
  • Image Stabilization: No
  • Autofocus: Yes
  • Tripod Collar: No

Specifications:
  • Filter Thread: 55 mm
  • Dimensions (DxL): Approx. 2.6 x 3" (6.6 x 7.7 cm)
  • Weight: 8.3 oz (235 g)

Minolta version of the lens. Don't discount this lens because it is part of a kit. SOOC JPEG.

Sony A700 : @18mm : 1/2000th : f3.5 : 200 ISO : Aperture Priority Mode : 0 Exp Comp : Flash not fired

The Sony System is extremely under rated. I switch between Nikon D2x and A700, the 18-70 is the best out of the box kit lens I have worked with and it is one the true deals left in kit lenses

I recently started to love again shooting with my long long forgotten Sony alpha.

Here are some samples with this kit lens from New Year's Eve.

And one more with Lightroom color shift adjustment
