Wonderful, sharp lens. Fast focus. Easily hand holdable.
Hopefully Sony will bring out the SSM version of this beauty soon!
It is fast enough as a sports lens for the non-professional
DSLR-A700: 1/400th : f/4 : 1600 ISO
Shot this from a bouncing boat out at sea of a fast-flying Buller's Shearwater. The 300 f/4 tracked and stayed focused well for pelagic birds on an overcast day.
DSLR-A700: 1/2000th : f/5.6 : 400 ISO
Sharp, even up close (not a close focusing lens, however)
Konica-Minolta 7D: 1/100th : f/9 : 200 ISO
I think it did pretty well with this very contrasty Kelp Gull image.
DSLR-A700: 1/4000th : f/4 : 200 ISO : -2/3 Exposure Compensation
