Denton Cyclocross race - 11.20.05 - 11-22-2005, 12:52 AM

I attended Sunday's cyclocross race in Denton not as a racer, but a photographer. I wish it had been the other way around, but things don't always work out right now, do they?

I appreciate your feedback and thoughts on these.

The A race riders hit the barrier section before everyone got un-bunched up.

Clouds bearing down...

But they're not walking...

Riding atop the levee...

A nice wide shot...

One of the obstacles was a sand pit... Tough to ride through.

Kickin' up a roost!

And finally... This guy said if I stuck around by the sandpit until the next lap, he had "something good" for me. I did, and he was right. There was a steep incline about 3 feet back from the edge of the sandpit, and this guy LAUNCHED it, landing IN the sand pit. He powered right through it and kept on going.

I particularly like #6. The colors in that one are great!

Have you tried slowing your shutter down and panning at all? I keep wanting to shoot some races and practice that technique. I love the look it gives when done well.

Yes, I have tried it, and normally do that on most of cycling pictures... Just didn't that much on that particular day.

You're right - It does give the illusion of speed, and that's always a nice thing!

(Not taken at this particular race, just an example of the panning technique!)
