A little rodeo action - 09-18-2010, 09:53 PM

I've been looking for an outdoor rodeo to shoot at for a long time now. Not sure why.... just thought it would always be fun to shoot. Went out the the Parker County Sheriff's Posse Rodeo for a little while today. Got there kind of late in the day and only got to shoot for about ½ hour or so, but got a few keepers. Even though Rodeo can be kind of colorful, I kinda had in mind something in sepia. I applied the Sepia filter in Photoshop to these first two and left the last image in color. Thoughts?

(Sometimes the horse wins one...)

I think I shot all of these with my 200-400 w/1.4x TC (I might have shot the last one with the 70-200).

Wes, that first shot is great. It really catches my eye in the sepia. The others are really good as well, but that first one is it. Great job.

What's the difference between a, "ranch rodeo" and any other kind of rodeo? I know that various ranches send teams to compete against each other. Is that it?

"ranch rodeos" are team events yes, where multiple ranch teams compete against each other for accumulated points for team totals.....top hand and top horse are canidates as well.....regular rodeos are timed or point accumulation events where generally the top 3 are paid against the whole field .there arent any "drawn timelines" associated with regular rodeos as in ranch rodeos....as well as entirely different events are associated with each respective kind of rodeo

I wasn't at that event. Very nice pictures. Nothing better than outdoor rodeo during the day!
