Michael - that's what I was talking about. John - totally up to you - I was thinking there are some folks who are just starting shooting sports and they might benefit from your expertise.
In my case, I had a good head-to-toe shot that would have been just fine right out of the camera, but I cropped it tighter to get the action, ball and face to stand out more. One of the shots I submitted to the newspaper was the one I entered, but uncropped. Sure enough, the editor cropped it - just not quite as tight as I did.
We've been asked to post our EXIF data (and that's a nice help for newbies) - I'm just suggesting we talk a little more in depth about what makes a great sports photo, and cropping is one of those art/skills that goes into making a good shot.
Thanx to Michael for your kudos - I appreciate it. However, IMHO John's shot was the best of the bunch this week - a clear winner.
