I thought we basically said the same thing on the VR thing :-). Use it if you are using a really low shutter speed. If not forget it. I can count on one hand the number of times I've used VR in the 2-3 years I've had a VR lens.

Tom,

As a former D200 owner I was pretty sure that is what you would conclude. It produces great, crisp shots in daylight but it's not a low light camera. The shadow noise is ugly. [And it's definitely not you.]

I think you can see that your shot would be much better at 1/500 and ISO 1600. Any current APS-C camera (at least above entry level) - such as D300s or D7000 - will give you good quality at 3200. Bob's volleyball shot is a great example at 4000. So you don't really have to go to full frame unless you want to.

Yeah - I agree on not needing full frame. I will probably wait to see what Nikon replaces the D300 with.
