Remote Camera under the basket - 02-22-2011, 09:52 PM

Here is one of my shots from last weekend. I had the opportunity to set up a remote camera under the basket. A hallway provided a little protection.

I had a 7D with 17-40 mounted on it. The camera was tilted upward somewhat. The image attached was cropped considerably to capture the action.

I had a Cybersync wireless transmitter in the camera hot shoe which triggered the two strobes I was using. To trigger the camera, I used a wireless trigger made by Phottix. It was connected to the port on the side of the camera. When I pressed the button, the camera fired, which in turn fired the Alien Bee strobes that were mounted on light stands in each corner of the gym.

I hope you find some of this info helpful.
Thanks
Mike

that trigger to fire the camera, the cord...is it the same cord you get when you buy pocket wizards, or do you have to buy this cord separately?

Mr. Stringer,

What did you use to hold up the remote?

IC, is there anyway to fire from one camera to the other camera? Like when I shoot one camera it automatically shoots the other camera? or do I still have to buy the remote and push the button on the remote for it to fire.

You can do that with pocketwizards.

ok I have 2 pocket wizards how do you do it? I've been trying to figure this out for months. I have the cord that came with the pocket wizard too, is that the right cord or do I need another cord? I'm trying to trigger a canon mark III and I'm shooting another mark III if that matters any.......do I need to do something inside camera for it to do it? im lost. sorry for asking in your topic thread dude, just got me puzzled.

I'm working on that now...you need the proper cord to go from the PW to the camera. The one on the camera is the second of the top set of connectors. Set that PW to receive. The one on your other MKIII will be the transmitter. I'm not sure, but the AF needs to be changed on your receiving camera for it to work correctly, if you're not using the shutter button to start AF...

Like Thomas said, you can do this with Pocketwizards. However, if you are syncing to strobes it becomes a much more complicated system requiring 3 pocketwizards and a separate trigger attached to the camera used as the shutter button releasing the camera you are shooting with and your remote at the same time.

If you are not using strobes then you need a prerelease cable to keep the camera awake. You can do it without a prerelease cable but you need one push to wake up the camera and another one to fire the camera.

sounds like a good topic for a new thread.

the camera was sitting on the floor. I had a couple of AA batteries taped to the bottom of the grip so the camera was aimed upward somewhat.

Definitely does...and there's probably already one started somewhere...if we get all this sorted out, maybe it could be a sticky...

I learned a lot by searching google and watching videos on pocket wizards, remote camera setups, etc. even a detailed video by a photographer 'splaining how he taped the batteries to the grip to shim it upward.

To fire a remote camera AND strobes and have them sync-up you have to have Pocket Wizards Multi MAXs.
