Cowboy Stadium Shooting - 03-16-2011, 07:36 PM

Critique: NC:

I have a press/field pass for the LaCrosse tournaments going on at the Arlington Cowboys' Stadium this Saturday.

I've never even been in the stadium never-mind shooting. Games start at 8am.

Any advice on lighting? lens(es)? monopod? settings?

I can swag it and adjust on the fly, but a little foreknowledge can go a long way to getting images the teams will enjoy.

Thank you,
Ray

Ray I shot there earlier during football season, but for the life of me I can't remember what the settings were that I used. The lighting was good though. I want to say that ISO was around 1600.

ray, i have shot in there five times. ISO at 1600-2000 will give you approx. shutter of 1000
at 2.8/3.2.
i shoot w/ canon mkIII, fwiw.

Thanks all, I had heard the light was pretty good.

I do have good glass and the D700 has great higher ISO qualities.

Stadium panoramic - 03-16-2011, 11:06 PM

I had the opportunity to visit the stadium right after it opened with a tour group. While I was there, I snapped this series of photos to make a panoramic photo. Enjoy.

Very nice Howard.

What camera and lens did you use? How many images?

I was using an Olympus SP-550 UZ. Basically a point and shoot with a fixed lens...I have upgraded severely since then, but it was good for what I was using it for then. Maninly using the camera for panoramics to send to the Texas Film Commission. For the Cowboys panoramic, I would say that I probably used either 4 or 5 frames to make this shot, and then stitched them together using Photoshop. Basically you can see that the windows at the end of the stadium allow patches of light to come through to make hotspots...then of course with the hole in the roof if it's open will also create sun spot opportunities. Good luck with your tournament!

A very long day at the Cowboy's Stadium yesterday. Had to try a panorama:

Is there a way to clean up the joint at the bottom of the image? Would blending and/or cloning work?

I put my photos in Photoshop and let it stitch them automatically. However, sometimes I've noticed that there might not be a clean stitch. So I go back and instead of stitching them automatically, it has a setting where you can manually move the frames around. That might be able to solve your problem, but I gotta tell you, I had to really expand the shot to make it larger so I could see the joint.

BTW...how did the lacrosse tournament go Ray? Were you able to get some good shots with the uneven lighting in there?

It was interesting. I think I got a few usable ones. I'll post a couple after I go through them.
