Question Illusion: explanation? - 04-07-2011, 11:37 AM

Critique: NC:

Since I never shoot sports, this is the first time I've seen something like this. I have some other similar shots as well. The ball is in two places: in CJ's left hand and a few feet in front of him. Explanation?

My guess would be that the curtain caught the pitcher's arm in the back position but caught the ball already thrown.

2nd curtain? But you should see motion from the pitcher....

Was this during an actual inning or during his warm up throws while the infield behind him was taking practice?

shutter speed was 1/2000th so that nixes the slower shutter capturing both locations. plus with that the pitcher's motion would be blurred.

id have to see the other pics to determine... pitcher could be warming up while infielders are tossing around...

This was during the actual game and one of several frames shot in succession. I have others too. Kinda strange but interesting.

Since he shoots with a 7D, I contacted AndrewCCM. This was his reply...

I have heard about that. There was a firmware update to fix it. Never seen it personally.
Turns out I have the latest FW so I'll take this up with Canon to see what they have to say.

Is that a cropped version? Would love to see where the shadow of the ball is located if you have a wider view. Not sure that it would prove anything but that was the first thing to pop in my head

Just looked at the non-cropped version, and a ball shadow is nowhere to be seen (at least in the frame). Now things are getting really weird. LOL
