Katy Ram Challenge Bike Ride - 04-11-2011, 08:56 AM

Critique: CC:

Here are a few from this weekends Katy Ram Challenge Bike Ride. It's a MS150 practice ride. Unlike some of the prior ride shoots, this day was super bright without a cloud in the sky. It made it hard to find a location that had a nice background, but wouldn't put the riders faces in heavy shade.

C&C always welcome.

Thanks Chris. I saw your shots from the other week... same to you! This week was a hot one, and that bright orange sun might do well for a portrait shoot... but for a sporting event it made for some crazy dynamic range. Pushed the Nikon to it's limits to avoid blowing out (too much) of the highlights & shadows.

Are you shooting the MS150??

Hear ya on the bright sun. I have no official ties to shooting the MS 150 but have been asked that now by a few people. I am not sure if I will or what. Are you an official shooter for it or just doing it like these rides. If either is there someone that needs to be contacted if looking at shooting it or just show up and shoot kind of thing. I may do it if there's not a lot of red tape to get through.

Never "Official".. I just don't roll like that.. Just gonna find a nice spot about 10 miles from a starting point (there are a few starting points).

You did a fine job on these - number four (with the thumbs up) is a perfect example of using a limited depth of field to tell a story.

Top notch work.

I like your style haha.

Ya, I might do the same. They actually ride right past my house (well like 5 miles from my house if that).

Thanks... most were shot with a 200mm or 500mm at about f7.1. I'm a big fan of shallow DOF.

yup still goes right by my house... could use either clay road or 529. 529 would have better backdrops.

But i'll miss it as I am gonna be @ BBSP on saturday morning. oh well.
