Trying for ball on bat - 04-23-2009, 11:12 AM

Went to the Giants-Pares game yesterday and just decided to play around from different angles and get a shot of bat on ball. Try as I might, out of about 300 pictures, this was as close as I could get

There is a local photographer to me (North East PA) Frank Lauri that shoots for the Yankee's minor league team. He gets 1 a game! I have tried many times from different angles as well. You have got just about as close as I have. I would suggest trying from the other side as with Sports you want to try to get face/eyes in the shot.

There are different techniques one can use to help the odds so to speak. I will use a combination of two techniques to get the shot, although there is some luck involved. Depending on where I am positioned I will watch the batter for their swing and I will also look over my camera and watch at the ball approaches. I shoot youth sports and their swings aren't always on target (too early / late). I keep my camera steady with a monopod when looking over the camera.
