Eye Contact - 09-24-2011, 11:36 PM

Critique: CC:

As I was shooting the HS game Friday night, I took this picture of one of our local cheerleaders. It was sort of a random moment of eye contact.

I have two different crops and I would like to hear comments about what works (or doesn't). I think the loose crop includes information that makes it clear it is a cheerleader. The tight crop focuses attention on her expression. I'm torn between the two.

Mods - I hope this is ok here - I thought this had a stronger association with sports than general images.

I agree. I would take care of the dust spot on her face, and take out the stray hair on the black of her shirt under her arm.

I'm kinda partial to #2. I like the intimacy of the shot.

I agree, I like #1 better since it has more context. #2 she could easily be a basketball player (their tops kind of look like jerseys).

Thanks for all the comments. Editing is tough.

I read the comments about the "dust" on her face. It turns out it is the spray-on glitter the cheerleaders use - still distracting - but not dust. I removed it from my finished photo. People have split decisions about the two edits. I finally went with #2 simply because the people at home who are my real audience know she is a cheerleader.
