Critique: NC:

So my new girlfriend has a second degree blackbelt in Karate. Some of her friends were in town this weekend at a tounament and we went to watch. And as always I took along a camera so I thought I would post a few that I took from the stands... and yes Sodium lamps suck.

D700, 80-200mm f/2.8 zoom, no flash, ISO at 2500, some croping.

So there are 3 types of matches Kata-A detailed choreographed patterns of movements,Kobudo-Budo with a weapon, and Kumite-Sparing, and

Here is some Kata

The colors are a little off.

I love that last shot. Excellent timing!

Yeah I just haven't had the time for PP, the D700 usually handles different lighing just fine but not this time. So I'll restate my opinion that Sodium lights suck.

And thanks I got lucky they move so fast it was tough to know when to take a shot.

I shoot some karate tourny's as well and sometimes I use my D700 in the gyms. I kick mine up to ISO-5000 and it handles the noise very well. If you don't custom WB it can all be done in PPing to reduce the yellow. Those gyms are hard to shoot in but your 700 should be able to handle them well.

I like to shoot from ground level but there are usually a lot of people around the ring. It looks like you got cleaner bg's by shooting down. Good luck and thanx for sharing.

I was thinking I wanted to be on the floor to get a better angle for the jumps but for the most part I had a good view of everything, I need to run them through Lightroom and correct the WB.
