Surface Interval Musings

I have since cropped a few of this to what I think is a better end, but I haven't had a chance to post them yet.

Just a suggestion, you'll get more CC if you post the actual images instead of a gallery link.

Nice colors and exposure. I think what jumps out at me the most is that you're really lacking faces on all but one or two photos. Faces differentiate a mediocre shot from a great one (along with other factors lol).

James,

Please take some time to review the Guidelines for Receiving Constructive Critiques. If you are asking for CC on your photos then please limit your post to the 3 best images of your set. I am changing your thread from CC to NC until you've narrowed down your images.

Rule #3. Photo Quantity Limitations
Do not post more than 3 photos in a thread for critique. Choose your absolute best 3 shots of the series and post those. Posting more than 3 shots per thread will only hurt your chances of getting an honest critique since critiques do take time.

Cool shots!

#6 - I love the fact that there is not one but TWO photographers in the background using their onboard flash. Really??

Crank that ISO up and stop some action! Your IPTC says that you are using a D3s at ISO 1000 f/4 400th of a second. That is why you are getting the blur on the batting shots. You have plenty of room to increase the ISO. It is usually better to have a grainy photo then a blurry one.

Overall though, work on getting tighter on the action, focus on faces and work on getting some peak action photos. Without a face it really lacks the wow factor it needs for a nice photo.

Who do you see using the popup flash? The 4 photogs that are in a row all have highlights/reflections from the stadium lights on their camera.

On my computer screen it looks like the 2nd and 4th photog are using a pop up flash. It is certainly possible that what I am seeing is just a highlight from the stadium lights. I am at my desk job and the LCD screen here may not be showing enough detail to see that. I sure hope they are not using pop up flashes!

Thanks for taking the time. I have had the D3s for just a few weeks, so despite it's reputation I wasn't sure how far I could push it, or how much grain I would get at a given level. I was pretty far away for the batting the sequence, unfortunately, but I do have some better crops.

I'll post some faces later, unfortunately they are of the enemy. LOL.
