Rough Riders Day Game (warning--lots of big images) - 05-11-2006, 08:40 AM

NPS sent me a D2X to play with for a few weeks, so I thought I'd try to put it through it's paces at a rare day game.

Sorry there are so many photos, but I had a hard time narrowing it down to just these! The sun was in and out of the clouds, which explains the variance in color balance.

All photos taken with 80-200 AF-S and TC14-E II. I can't wait until I learn how to use the D2X to it's full potential!

C/C welcome:

Sheesh! And you think you need more practice?!? You've got some killer timing going on with all those shots with the ball in them as well as some of the dives and acrobatics. These are all fantastic shots!!

Thanks, Joe. The X is similar in many ways to my H, but I still need to learn to tweak it a bit.

Yeah - I'll second what Joe said. Those are FANTASTIC shots. The timing is amazing and the composition and exposure are 1st rate as well.

The timing isn't amazing,, it is absolutely incredible. You couldn't get that many great timed shots even at 8FPS, unless you had the timing just right..

I am envious....

Guys, thanks for the kindness, but really--I wasn't trolling for compliments. I think these are cool shots, but they could also use some improvement in sharpness and color correction.

My combo of the 80-200 AF-S and the TC-14E II seems to provide intermittent results. Images such as the pitcher above are just not as sharp as some of the others, and it's not a focus issue. I can't seem to get consistent results with this combination--I think it's due to my old 80-200 being a bit banged up.

When some checks come in, I guess I'll need to swap it for a 70-200 VR and pony up for a big prime.

Oh, and Tom--sometimes you just get lucky. The one of the ball right on the bat--I was giggling like a little school girl when I saw I got that one. Nobody has timing that good.

Thomas--you're very right about Frisco being photog-friendly. I was a bit concerned going in there with so much big iron, but nobody gave me a second look!

Not to burst your bubble or anything....but I have ball on bat timing that good at least once a week. With an old D1H.

Dosen't mean that it's still not freaking awesome. And I too....still giggle like a schoolgirl when I know I got ball on bat.

I think you could crop that photo in much tighter...nobody really needs to see the catcher.

Well... it's time to get back in the game.
