Still downloading images from tonights game, here is one that caught my eye as I was downloading that I thought I would post and see what you all thought. Its a little different but then again so am I :)

#1 - Andy Pettitte getting ready to bat for the first time, since suffering an injury in 2004. (15mm f/2.8 fisheye)

Added in Edits: I have a ton of good shots, nothing really special happened in the game so most are hitting, pitching and a few fielding! I will post more if people want me too I still need to get through the images, only about30% to 40% looked at yet. I am finding that anything in the air I am liking :)

#2 - 3rd baseman - Morgan Ensberg swinging away during the Houston Astros win over the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1. (Taken with a 70-200L f/2.8 )

#3 - 1st baseman - Jeff Baggwell hitting a ball down the thrid baseline. (Taken with a 70-200L f/2.8 )

#4 - 3rd baseman - Morgan Ensberg diving back into first base on a failed pick off move by the St. Louis Cardinals. (Taken with a 400L f/2.8 )

#5 - Taken with a Canon 400L f/2.8

#6 - Yes that Biggio - I posted since I knew someone would ask "Why don't you have any images of Biggio" Taken with a Canon 400L f/2.8

#7 - A smiliar one like Pettitte's of Short Stop #28 Adam Everett, taken with a 15mm f/2.8 fisheye

AWESOME! I was so excited to see Andy pitch so well today. Good to have him back and healthy!

I really (really) like that. It gives a great feeling of what it's like to be standing on deck! The solitude and concentration - and I'm sure for a pitcher fear - all are there.

So I gotta ask because I'm always curious about sports photography -- what lenses were you using? Were you down in the camera "pits"?

Yes I was in the camera pit, I was standing where Karen was standing in the pic you took from opening night!

I had the following at this game:

400L IS f/2.8 (too much for the location I was at, needed the 300 f/2.8

70-200L f/2.8 (if the image is not right up on them it was most likely taken with this lens if they were batting or pitching)

24-70L f/2.8 - I did not use this all day, besides may be Lou Diamond Phillips throwing out the first pitch pictures.

15mm f/2.8 fisheye - Most of the "on deck" shots. With the 1.6 or 1.3 crop factor you get a little fish effect but not to the point it is to weird looking. Plus the fisheye gets GREAT skies which worked great for todays game.

Also had a 1.4 and 2 extenders which I only used the 1.4 for a few shots.

Mike, they all look great. I especially love the fisheye shots. Really shows off what the expanse of the stadium must feel like to the players. I need to get me one of those 70-200mm lenses! Nice work!

PS: Used the ringlite and 100mm macro at work last night. I think i'm gonna buy the 50mm macro though. The 100 was too close for taking pictures of property.

HA!
I am tired from standing on my feet all day and working on these pictures (or more like just looking through all the RAW files) thanks for getting my morning off on a right/funny foot!

Mike

P.S. The 400 f/2.8 is not mine (its a rental)

Ha...a friend used to say the same thing, but about his girlfriend!

While I'd love a print, can I at least link to the picture to post in my high school forum? There's a lot of Yankee fans (remember, I grew up one mile from NYC!) there who still haven't forgiven Andy or Roger and I'd like to rub it in!

So who are these Astros, is this a miner league time in Houston or something ........

Mike they are all, and I do mean all outstanding shots. I would say you have a new job if you want it, that is if I had the say.

The one question I do have is was it hard taking the pictures without someone kissing the other person in the shot.

Of course ANYTHING to make fun of stick it to a Yankee fan is very cool with me :)

Thanks Bill and yes it can be pretty tight, there were quite a few photographers there yesterday including, Bob Levy from WireImage.com, the Houston Chronicle gang, Getty Images, UpperDeck Company and a bunch of other guys who had cameras ranging from point and shoots, 1970's model all manuel cameras, to the big boys. So in other words it can get tight but most people are very nice and work with you and you with them. It is nice to sit back and watch some of the pros just shoot, they are amazing photographers and have a knack to know where the action is going to happen!
