Drag Boat Racing - 08-05-2006, 09:25 PM

Met up with PeteQ (by accident) and a couple guys from my photo club at Marine Creek Lake today and shot some of the drag boat qualifying. I used my 300 f/2.8 with the 1.7x teleconverter for 510mm of jaw dropping mm. This setup was quite tight, but I was able to get close into the action and had a lot of fun doing it.

Here's a few of my measly attempts. I'm sure Pete will post some of his and blow mine away. I already saw the one in the DFW forum and am already in awe.

I love this guy's face, it looks like to old memorex commercial:

A couple shot at low shutter for a panning effect:

Gotta love #9--that enclosed cockpit screams "Boatmobile" (pardon the pun!).

You got a lot of good ones Steve. Great color and good job on the panning. For me the rooster tail coming off the back is what makes these boats so dramatic. I think you did a real nice job especially as hot as it was today. I pretty much melt in this heat. Thanks for sharing your work!

Nice work, I played with panning over the weekend. Panning is an art in and of it self.

I like the last shot best. The action is frozen, and the back and foreground are blurred well denoting Speed!
