7th Grade Girls BBall - 12-01-2006, 09:45 AM

I've coached and trained this girl 3 years and this was her first school basketball game. She couldn't even catch a pass when she showed up 3 years ago. She scored around 25 of the teams 32 in this game. She's making me very proud!

My location wasn't that great because Mom wanted me to sit with her. The gym was really yellow and I'm having some issues with adjusting the white balance and exposure on my laptop. But here's my attempt.

Thanks for looking. Hopeing to improve from your comments.

No. 1's color doesn't look bad at all. No. 3 isn't too bad, but No. 2 definitely has issues, and I'm not even sure what you could do to fix that other than to do a custom white balance with a grey card or expodisc, etc.

I tried to do some color corrections (and I'm not the greatest in the world), but that color cast I couldn't do anything with :)

What kind of equipment were you using and what were the settings you were using?

Using the DRebelXT, and Sigma 70-300 4-5.6.
I was at ISO 1600, switching between manual and AV mode with SS around 250 usually. Auto White balance in RAW so I could correct later. The second shot was actually after I switched to jpeg because my CF was full. All where shot at 70mm and cropped so I could get the full 4.0 out of this lens. I'm looking to get the 85 1.8 and the 50 1.8 very soon.

Thanks for looking.

Yeah Bee I would think that doing a customized white balance may help curb some of your color issues. I don't know if that is possible for not, but I would check into it if I were you as I think at least it could cut down some of your post-production time.

It's possible. Just didn't think of it at the time. I had 6 kids I've trained playing on both teams. So I had a lot of parents talking to me. The one I posted just happens to be the best.

Hi I am new here, Did you have to use any noise reduction software? I mainly shoot my 10 year olds games with a 85MM 1.8 and depending on the gym I am struggling to get 1/500 shutter speeds at ISO 1600. After much research I picked up the 85MM but what I forgot about was my 30D has a 1.6 crop factor which makes the leans really a 136MM.

Sure did. I used noiseware. I must say I am very impressed with the results. They have a community (free) edition on their website. http://www.imagenomic.com/download.aspx .The only issue with the free is you can't do batch jobs. It's one photo at a time. I'd love to hit 1/500

Thanks for looking.
