8th Grade Basketball Tournament - 12-11-2006, 11:14 AM

Here's a few shots from this past weekend. I shot a lot of pics, but many were duds. Oh well, I'll keep trying. All were shot with Rebel XT, ISO 1600 1/320 ss with Sigma 70-200 f/2.8.

Comments welcome.

Nice shots. It's kind of funny that you talk about duds. I shot around 300 frames over two games and culled them down to 288. I think that I liked 4 or 5 at the most and I thought they sucked I talked to the mom of one of the players today. She said "I can't decide which pictures I want. They are all so good. I wish that I could print all of them." Ummm yeah... I told her that I wasn't that impressed and that I could do better. She said "every picture of my child is awesome and nobody has ever taken any of him playing that are this good".

Moral of the story- Most people know absolutely nothing about photography

If I were selling... yes, absolutely. In her case it translates into a little money spent on cheap prints from an internet image printing site once she downloads the images from my site por nada.

I'm not going to sell anything unless I like it and so far I haven't taken a sporting event image that I really like (and we are talking a couple of thousand images by now). A few are ok, but not sellable in my book. I'm just practicing

I'm going to print a few and make an album for my graddaughter. She may ask for a few prints for her friends on the team also. I think I have a few pics of everyone on the team I can use.

Mike - I think these a fairly good shots. Yeah, they're a little dark, but I'm surprised they are as good as they are with a 2.8 lens and what I am sure was a poorly lit gym You used a lens I have and never would have thought it would be fast enough.

Have you tried using a good hot shoe flash?

I didn't try a flash. I wasn't sure about if I could use one.
