Someone I know is the father/coach of a pop warner football league here in Austin. He's asked me numerous times to come out and test shoot to see if I'd be interested in being the photographer for them. Since there are children involved I know there is a fine line in these situations and was looking for some guidelines, suggestions, etc.

He told me that if I took the job, then their organization would have the parents sign a waiver stating they are aware I would be on the field shooting photos of their children and making them available for sale, using them for ads, etc.

What do I need (paperwork or otherwise) to make this happen? I don't want some parent to end up trying to sue me because I photographed their kid.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

If you are working with the league ,and the parents are informed of what you are doing ,I dont see where there would be a problem. It might be a good idea to get specific permission from individual parents if you decide to post any pics to the web or used them for promotional purposes. Of course in this day and time anyone can sue anyone else for anything. Doesnt mean they will win ,but it can cause some headaches. Bob

Erika- as long as you have the permission from the league, you are good. Most parents dont have an issue with you being out there shooting. Just watch for the officials. Talk with them and joke with them if possible. Technically you arent supposed to be between the 20yd lines, and I think 3-5 yards from the sidelines. If you get on the officials good side they will normally let you roam pretty freely. Also make sure you let the coach know its his sideline and move if they want you too.
