I took these of my kids football team last year. Any critiques are more than welcome.

Night game

Their first scrimmage. This play ended up right where I was standing.

I know, this one's a smidge blurred, but you still gotta love the look on the poor kids face.

few more....

Ok, let me have it! What do you guys think?

Your composition looks good but theres two things that I think can help. Try to shoot with a shallower DOF and higher shutter speed.

This will do two things. Freeze the action and isolate your subject.

Now this may or may not be possible depending on what equipment you are using. If I knew what you were using I could provide you more specific camera and lens settings to accomplish the best results.

There are many variables to sports shooting other than the two mention above but to tell you what AF, ISO, SS, aperture or meter settings to use for the best results depends entirely on your equipment.

Oh yeah, forgot that part didnt I.. All shot with a Fuji S5000.

The night shot was at ISO 400, 1/200 shutter speed and F3.2.

The second shot is at ISO 200, 1/640 shutter speed and F8.

Third shot is at ISO 200, 1/500 shutter and F5.6.

Fourth is at ISO 200, 1/500 shutter and F3.6.

Last one is ISO 200, 1/500 shutter and F5.

Pretty much leave it at ISO 200 now, the pictures are much clearer. Set the shutter depending on how bright it is and let the camera set the f-stop. The night shot is no flash and then photoshopped to lighten it up.
