Old shot, (its even film) but I was laying down on the ground to get this. On one of the attempts, he landed on the board, then it shot out at me. I was able to roll over a bit, but it still stuck me in the ribcage under my arm. Hurt like heck for like a week. Still got the shot though.

As for how I got so close. I guess the best way to do it is to know where that skater might go and if he messes up, whats the risk of getting hit with the board. Also, know your viewfinder, if you understand what you will get in a frame without looking through the view finder, you can get in really close and if they do mess up you can spring out of the way. Makes it way easier to get low since you dont need to get on your knees. Dont be afraid to get in there. I have not yet been hit with a board.

Next week I am going on with a couple flashes and PWs to get some more dramatic lighting.

And thanks daniel, btw, got the light meter, works great.

Thanks for the comments. Should be posting more soon.

Awesome shots, I see some skaters on I35 north of San Antonio near San Marcos skating some cement ditches and think it would be a good photo op often.

Merock that shot is sweet too.

If you get the pocketwizards, I would also get one of those heavy metal plate things with a tripod mount (You set it on the ground) and aim/preset your focus there.

I'm not sure what they are called, I've just seem them in sportsshooter.com videos.

There is a new skate park on St. Francis in East Dallas, off of I30.

Best skateboard photographer I have come across:
