Lady Oilers Win on Teacher Appreciation Night - 01-26-2005, 07:44 AM

Last night the Pearland Oilers beat the Deer Park Deer in varsity soccer, 2-1. I really like the way the long hair shows motion.

Boy do I miss their feet:

This was a great battle on a free kick:

Last night I learned that there is at least as much trash talking on the field during the ladies game as there is during the men's game. And you girls should be ashamed of yourselves!

I think these turned out better than my previous night soccer effort. Let me know what you think.

Greg

For Jim - OK, here's my take on shooting at night, I hate it! Here's my take on shooting soccer, I hate it! Here's my take on shooting night soccer, I hate it! First, I've really grown to like soccer of the last few years so I don't dislike the sport. The constant change of direction and unpredictability of ball movement make it a challenge and a half to shoot. For me, its at least twice as hard a shooting football or baseball. Night, well I can't imagine anyone would like to shoot night sports. Maybe if I had a 200mm f/1.8 all my problems would be solved (and at what thay're going for, I'll need a guarantee with that.) So night and soccer, well is been a challenge. If these pictures are any better than the last bunch, its because of your mentoring. Thank you. This weekend there will be a ladies soccer tournament during the day (I love you sun!) I'll have more practice under the lights next week, though. I'll eventually get it right! gg

Greg, nice shots! I wish I had the 200 f/1.8 as well for shooting night games and indoor sports. What lens were you shooting with ? (just curious)

Thanks, Sheldon.

I am using the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 ISO 800, exposure compensation -1, and a monopod. These are my first attempts at soccer and night sports. Its not easy!

Keep shooting Greg, I look forward to seeing some more shots. Still LOVE the first image!
My youngest son plays baseball in the Cy-Fair league, and I have shot many times during the day. I have not even attempted an evening game under the lights. Up until just recently, I had the 70-200 f/4, but now that I have the 70-200 f/2.8, I just might crank up the ISO and give it a try.
