I have had my best luck on WB at football games (under the lights) by setting to 3800. That gets it pretty close, and a whole lot more consistent than leaving it on auto. I can tweak it after the fact, but the 3800 gets me in the ballpark.

The only solution is to color correct each image or use strobes to overpower ambient lighting. If there is a better way I don't know and would love to hear it.
I shot another game not too long ago and noticed this. I had NO idea why I was seeing so many color casts and just happened to look through my subscribed threads tonight. Thanks! You taught me something new!!!

Nothing fits on the end of a 300 f2.8, so, the easiest thing to do is shoot the same lighting conditions with a lens that your ExpoDisc DOES fit on and then load that WB profile, remount your 300mm and go off to the races. That's what I do.

That's why I always buy very large filter sizes and lots of adapter/reducer rings. I've got the 82mm ExpoDisc. And I'm going to be buying a 4x6 ExpoFilter for my LEE system.
