2004 DFW cyclocross race images - 07-27-2005, 12:21 AM

As I've stated previously, I'm a cyclist and I love taking pictures of cycling, in all it's forms. One of those is cyclocross. Cyclocross (or CX) started in Europe as a way for road racers to keep in shape during the winter. These days, racers use specially designed bikes which at first glance look like road bikes, but they are far sturdier and have knobby tires for traction off-road. The terrain is a mixture of grass and pavement, and there are barriers sprinkled throughout the course. These barriers may either be bunnyhopped or the rider must dismount and run across them and then remount the bike.

I raced several seasons of CX in Memphis, but after moving here last year, I decided not to participate in the DFW races. Instead, I took pictures. :)

Cool shots.

I used to be a triathlete, and all my buddies were always trying to get me to do a cyclo-cross. Never did one though. The muddy-buddy races seemed cool, but why a road frame off road? I never got it.

It's all about weight...mtn bikes are too heavy...road bikes are very light. I do these every now and then. Last one I did it had some unknown cyclocross guy who didn't do too bad. I think he went on to win some big races in France

I know light weight. I ride a Kestrel CF time trial bike. But it's really not much heavier than my Bridgestone MB-1.

And that guy... Sheesh if I could do chemo.... I am in awe of Lance. IMHO the greatest endurance athlete EVER. Period. No questions asked. See ya later.

Well, that Paula Newby-Frasier chick was pretty good too.
