SMUs 08 football season comes to an end with a 28-12 loss. Not a great season for the Mustangs but it was fun to cover. Here are some parting shots from today's game. Next up, the 08-09 Basketball season. Enjoy.

Great shots! Too bad the fans didn't help you out by filling to stands for your backgrounds. Great captures anyway.

Thanx Jason. Yeah attendance this season has been pretty low at most of the games except for the SMU/TCU Rivalry game. That game was packed! I hate seeing the football season come to an end, I love shooting football. My favorite sports to shoot are the ones I played the most, football and baseball.

Thanx again and Happy Holidays!

After seeing all these great shots of football games, I wonder what settings you use when shooting action sports during the day. I've shot football at night so it is always a hight ISO (at least 1600), etc. What settings do you (everybody who shoots sports during the day) usually use for daytime? I understand that checking the histogram and taking a few test shots would help to tweak things, but what are the "ballpark" settings that you commonly use?

I would say shoot at the lowest ISO available and then start with a f-stop of 3.4-4.5 and adjust the shutter speed accordingly. Saturday was kind of a pain, because it was bright sunshine for a while and then the sun would duck in and out of the clouds.

So that can always be a challenge :).

Edgar pretty much what Jason said. Saturday we did have the sun and clouds so I shot in Aperture mode and kept checking my histograms and adjusting accordingly. ISO had to go up when the sun was behind the clouds then back down when it was out.

If you need you can do some adjusting in PP to clean things up. Hope we helped, good luck!

Putting equipment aside, it has been interesting to me as a beginner that night time is easier than daytime because the light is more consistent (stadium lights don't change).

I agree with Jason, yesterday was cloudy, then sunny, then cloudy. Challenging. I used the D300's Matrix metering and it seemed to work very well yesterday. Not the greatest colors but it balanced out the whole scene nicely on most all of the pictures.
