Do Ice Girls belong in Sports section? (5DMkII pics)

LOL.. Wasn't entirely sure..

Just thought I'd post a few more 5DmkII examples. Some mentioned wanting to see something other than sports shots...But I thought the subject matter here was a bit different. LOL

These are just a few fun shots from the other night (12/5). It was the first time I had used the 5DmkII body...

Thanks Jake.. That was my fav of the night too... I gotta tell you.. It's tough to concentrate when standing in the middle of the ice. That was shot with the 300F2.8 on a monopod and it kept slipping. The shots of the girls on the platform are tough as it's very odd lighting and the proximity to subject is really tight. I have to use a 16-35 a lot and it somewhat distorts them on occasion. Trying various angles from around the AAC to figure something better out.

I have a shoot with them at Love Field on board the "Jingle Jet" next Wednesday. At least it's a change of venue. LOL

Good job Andrew. Looks like you and the 5DmkII are getting along fine. I expect you could put these in any section and it would work fine. We'll maybe not the nature section but who knows....LOL.

Good work Andrew. Makes me want the event center down here to get done even more. I can't wait to see what they end up with down here for the Texas Stars Ice Hockey team. I will start getting pumped about the time the building is actually getting done.

They are still trying to erect the steel right now...

As a hockey dad/coach/fan, i really enjoy seeing all your photos. But calling them "Ice Girls" when they stand at one end of the arena and dance..well.

You do know there are 15 of them and only 4-6 of them "Dance at the end of the arena".

The rest are cleaning the ice during TV time outs, skating between periods and assisting the on ice events with the fans.

They are also monitored very closely by the NHL and they have to meet certain standards when removing the snow from the ice and have to do it in a specific amount of time. If you watch closely, it is pretty much a mad dash to get it all done and they barely make it off as the TV crew counts down the last 5 secs prior to puck drop as they come out of the timeout. It is a sprint. These girls can skate and most are either former competitive skaters or are current figure skate instructors.

Anyway.. Just thought I'd throw it out there for consumption.

Oh....and think of it this way... Are the guys out on the football field in Texas Stadium really Cowboys?

Yup, I know :-) My kids took lessons from Katie Hill long before she was an ice girl. She's not one anymore. I just think the "dancers" are a goofy gimmick. I've been on the ice for between period shootouts with the little guys, and that is also closely monitored by the NHL, on and off the ice in a prescribed amount of time, no room for error.

I just think the dancers are goofy. :-)

Goofy maybe.. But most major sports (minus baseball) have some sort of cheerleaders/dancers. Anyway...they make me money...so I like em.
