Post Ft Worth Rodeo (17) - 02-03-2009, 11:44 AM

Had an assignment to cover an event for class and decided to head down to the rodeo. I've been to the rodeo a couple times, so I knew what to expect.

Called up to check regulations on photography and flash, hung up the phone with a media pass and parking ticket.

Brought a full bag and ended up with 70-200 2.8 on 95% of the time. The Bulls needed the 1.4 TC, but it still wasn't enough reach or speed. First time using a monopod. My head hadn't come in so I was using a ball head from my tripod on it instead.

Nice series.
I usually go up into the stands and try to shoot down because I don't like the crowd in the background. I'll likely get back over there tomorrow or Thursday.

What ISO ?

I've been there and know what it's like to shoot but I haven't been since I got a Mark III.
Most of these are ISO 6400 and are not that bad at all to me. Very usable. I'm more interested in what you did in post processing.

Excellent results, in my opinion. I am usually one to try to get more of the action without so much of the the crowd in my shots...BUT...looking at your images I find that I like seeing the crowd in the background when you can capture their reactions as you have done in many of these images. The women in the background of the 3rd saddle bronc shot are really good. I think they add to the image.
I LOVE to shoot rodeo, but too often come out with too much motion blur. An image can definitely benefit from some motion blur, but mine come out looking more like Impressionist paintings. LOL!!!!
Good job.

Thanks yall.

Ya, mostly 6400 and some 3200.

I think a 300 2.8 would be almost worth the rent for this.
