Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD (
NOT the VC!) on my Canon XTi.
I took this lens out for the first time on a night shoot. The lens is really sharp at the far end. The short end, not so much. I'll stick to my nifty fifty for portraits unless I can get WAY back from my subject.
Color correction (I had the wrong WB setting.) and sensor hot spot clean up only.
f5.0, Bulb (approx 90 seconds), ISO 200, 28mm. I had to brighten this one in PP. It was too dark. Tree trunk was about 30 feet away. See full sized on
Flickr.
f4.0, 30 seconds, ISO 200, 32mm. The branches were about 10 feet away. The wind was blowing, but I think I managed to get this between gusts, so the trees are fairly sharp. See full sized on
Flickr.
f16.0, 15 seconds, ISO 200, 46mm. I was about 200 yards from the courthouse, across the street to the NW. See full sized on
Flickr.

I was blown away by the sharpness on this last one. Here's a crop of the full sized capture:
