The Studio Lighting Workshop Series is a collection of five workshops designed to help you get the most out of your studio experience. No matter if your interest lies in portraits or products, these classes will enable you to understand the technical aspects of shooting in a studio, and provide enough hands on work to accomplish your goals in no time at all. Read below to learn about each class and the topics covered. These classes are designed for those who may be entering the studio for the first time as well as those who have moderate experience with the topics covered. No questions are off limits!

Studio Lighting I

This workshop combines an introduction to the basic techniques and equipment found in a studio with hand-on sets and models to enhance your learning. We will start at the beginning with a discussion of the nature of light, and quickly move into practical demos with live models. After identifying some of the basic techniques of studio shooting, we will split into groups and practice what we have learned. This longer workshop is designed for those participants who have some experience in the studio. We will be working with different genres of portraiture including fashion, headshots, traditional portraits, and edgy, modern portraits. Multiple lighting setups and models will be used to examine different avenues of photographing in the studio. Time will also be devoted to discussing the most common questions relating to the business of portrait photography.

With the explosion of web based commerce, photographers are routinely asked to provide photography of small and large products, clothing, and so much more. This class discusses how to photograph all of those things and more. Special attention will be given to producing shots for the web, and how to copy artwork. Multiple tabletop setups will be provided to practice on. Some interesting advanced techniques will be discussed such as painting with light and spirographic images.
