If you can’t justify the cost of the Nikon 12-24 I think the Tokina is a good alternative

I know a couple of Nikon shooters who have used both lenses, and they swear the Tokina is a better lens.

In controlled light I would agree, it is better for interior work, but it's only real weakness is flare resistance, or lack thereof.

controlled light is the key here
my copy and I have read that others share a similar characteristic, if you 'zoom' throughout the range you much adjust your exposure as the camera/lens interface misses proper exposure.

Might as well add mine to the mix. This is an impressive lens at less than half the cost of the Nikon. This was done with my D300 at 24mm at f22.
