nearly dark when i passed the shop near home yesterday and saw this. It looks like the regular taillights are missing, or replaced by a glass panel as you can see directly into the car.

I agree it looks Italian.
I've seen a few 1970s Lamborghinis that had a similar cutout at the rear, but a search online didn't turn one up exactly like it. Of course, appears there are some words on the top of the rear deck if you're really curious!

Interesting. The tail lights are there but in an odd place. Strange that you can see inside the car as well. Kinda looks like a Maserati maybe???

Yeah, I'd have to go with an older Maserati maybe from the 70's guessing, like a Bora or Merak.. don't think it's a Bora though.

I've always been a fan of the 1970's Maserati's.
The Ghibli and Indy were stunning.

A side note and followup: a few days later as I passed the shop, they had a crane and a few tow trucks working to fish the car out of a 5’-6’ deep drainage ditch that runs in front of the building. It appeared that they had backed it out of the stall where I shot it, and ran it off of the driveway apron and into the ditch. When I got there the front wheels were on the apron so I don’t know if they had worked to get them there or if the car basically stopped once the rear end fell off. There didn’t appear to be any damage.
I might assume that the infamous brake accumulator was failed: without it properly maintained and charged, you basically have no brakes……
