911 in Deep Ellum - 02-28-2010, 10:48 PM

Was trying to decide between a bike ride and house work today, ended up doing a quick wash on the car at 4:30pm and running over to Deep Ellum to play with the camera.

Just a few of what I shot. All hand held, 24-105 lens.
#1 Shadow on the windshield. Any thoughts on fixing it PP?
#2 Pulled back a bit. Removed the inspection stickers and paint on the parking lot. Not happy with the concrete, I simply quit early.
#3, except the barricade running through the middle of it. Knew it'd be there, but wanted the practice anyhow. What would be a good way to remove the barricade? I suppose I could simply change it's color. I just noticed the trash in the background.
#4 Edited version of 3.
#5. Wish I had put it about 6" closer to the wall and rolled it forward about 3" Touch of warming, a crop.
1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

#1 is my favourite of the three, though #2 is a close second. I'd prefer it if #2 were cropped so that the right edge of the image falls along the black vertical bar - there's a bit too much space, I think.

Regarding the barrier - that's tough. Cloning only works insofar as you have enough background to clone from, and I'm not sure that there is enough. Maybe if you changed it to the colour of the concrete, it would fade into the background a bit?

Nice 911 Shots ...

I like the First one. The Shadow actually doesn't bother me on that one.
Nice job with the stickers on the second one.
And for the last one ... I recommend you B&W the Shot ... and then mask out the Porsche and the Bird ... artistic color pull. ... I agree with Daniel, the cloning tool would make the shot look funny for lack of photo to cover the rail.

Thanks for the comments guys. I played with the cloning tool, didn't get very far with it before I bailed out of that idea. The barricade is just too big. I think the rear could be removed, but I'm not sure that would 'help' or leave the photo out of balance. I did decide to try just a B&W on the curb and barricade. I'm pretty happy with that. I may tone it down more now that it has it's own layer. I'll continue to play with the B&W.

I was torn with #2, I brought it back to the black key.

I may go back out in the rain this evening, not sure how that lot will look on a Monday though. The car is clean enough to hose off and towel any spots on it once I get there.

thanks, it works if you don't have the original to compare it to.

All of these are nice, but I'm diggin' #5 the most. I see your point about moving the car forward a touch, but as is I still really like the composition.

Thanks, 5 turned out to be my favorite of the set also. Ironically, the car was further back in all but the first one out of the camera. I played with 5 a bit more last night, came up with 6 and 7.

I really wanted to get back over there yesterday and try a few more things in the rain. The contrast of the wet parking lot is always a nice touch.

Adding a rainy day photo, used the 5d and a 50mm 1.2 with this one.

I like this rain drop photo and the angle of the car.

Now that's a real nice shot there.

Did you also add some saturation to pop the color a bit as well?

Wow, this last one is just fantastic! The color looks great, and the wetness really adds a lot of interest.
