My New Daily Driver - 04-13-2011, 06:39 PM

Critique: CC:

I'm been wanting an older Toyota truck for a long time now and unfortunately our Montero decided to start falling apart, so I made it a mission to fine the nicest truck for it's age I could find. I did pretty good aside from the faded bed like they all have and the damage to the front which will replaces with new offroad goodies.

This one was an experiment with my crappy phone camera to see what kind of pic I could get with nice light with a phone. It turned out better than expected sans the noise.

Looks like a good base to start from. One of my friends was up to 7 1985-87 Toyota pickups and 4Runners at one point.

very nice. original Aisin hubs, 2.4L straight 4, 5 speed, and 4x4. perfect. i have an 88 4runner with the same configuration although it has been converted into a rock crawler, and a 95 T100 that has been built into an uber rock crawler. that truck will go forever. just make sure you keep up with the timing chain. you have a ton of awesome options for aftermarker tube bumpers that will hold a winch.

Funny you should mention that. Long story short, I actually bought the truck over a month ago and as I pulled onto my street from picking it up, the timing chain let go. The PO was a heavy truck Mech and felt really bad so he performed the labor and I just paid for the parts and valve job. It was a bad day.

This will actually be replacing my previous rock toy that I had to get serious and let go of. My plan is to leave the truck alone for a year maybe two and then Marlin Bumpers or make my own, 3-link the front and 37's and maybe a bed bob depending how often I use it as a pickup. I'm used to jeep gear ratio's... are 5.29's too tall for 37's

Here is my last Jeep.

now you are talking my language. my T-100 has a full width chevy dana 44 front with 4.88's, an ARB, chromoly axles and CTM u-joints. crossover steering, and a custom built set of hangers for leafs. nobody does T-100 stuff, so it was all custom. i was not ready to link it. tube bumper with 9500 warn, dual marlins with standard gears in both (since it is auto trans), stock toy rear with 4.88's and an ARB. custom rear tube bumper and sliders. 5" susp lift with alcans in back and 44044's in front and 2" body lift. rear axle converted to full floater with disks from FROR. 38.5"x14.5 TSL SX on 15x10 champion beadlocks.

the 88 4runner just has the standard IFS 4" lift, but has 4.56's front and rear, ARB in the rear, lock right in the front, custom tube bumpers front and rear and sliders, and the rear has a swing away tire carrier built in. i have the tranny out now to stuff the second case on that one as well. it sits on 33"x12.50 TSL.

rock crawlers are fun money pits.

Now the Jeep is more my taste. I have a 98 XJ with a DPG Hybrid 5" lift. Haven't wanted to cut the fenders though, so still on only 31s.

Cool, I still love Cherokee's I traded that one for a 98 that is slowly going to become more of a expedition type Jeep since I'd like to travel more to places like Utah, Colorado and the Sierra's with the wife and the dog. Still have alot to do on that one though, it's my wife's daily driver right now.
