NASA's Project Morpheus - 04-14-2011, 05:27 PM

Critique: CC:

The first shot is a little methane burp during the test firing of Project Morpheus. It is a prototype lander being built on a shoestring budget by a team of engineers at NASA's Johnson Space Center. The second picture is the lander at 100% throttle, notice the little blue shock cones just below the engine outlet. I had the opportunity to place a camera in the tower right beside while this test was being conducted to capture these images. I had the Canon 1D3 with a 70-200 F2.8 at about 150 feet away at 70mm f9. Critique them or not, I don't care, I just thought some of you would like to see.

P.S. if you see a watermark across the middle, I'm sorry, I'm waiting for smugmug to remove it

I really like the second shot. I think the shock cones suggest the amount of thrust that is involved, right?

i dont think it has as much to do with thrust as much as it does the speed at which the fuel is being propelled and burned... but i guess the fatser that is, the more thrust is produced... so in a way it could be
