NAS Air Show Tip - 04-17-2011, 10:11 AM

Critique: NC:

There is a better place to shoot the Blue Angles. Here's what I'd do if you go to the NAS Air Show. Shoot all the early afternoon shots at the regular venue. Then at about 2:30 leave the show and take 183 south, and take the 341 exit off to your right. This take you toward the Lockheed plant. There is a place on your right that you can turn off into a informal parking area. You have to look carefully for the place to turn because it's not clearly marked. From this location the sun will be at your back, and you can get some pretty decent shots.

That last one looks like a group of suspended model planes.
Greate captures.

Always love shots of the Blues. What happened to the slot, number #4. He is not in the last 2 shots?

#4 and #7 didn't fly. I heard that the pilot for #4 was sick.

NOW I read this post! That's what I get for not coming to the forum on Saturday night... Oh well...next year. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Not sure if policy has changed, but they used to run the Air Station Air show on alternate years from the Alliance Air show just so there wouldn't be any conflict between the two.

In 2010 both airshows (NAS JRB Ft Worth and Alliance) were held. NAS JRB FW in the spring and Alliance in the fall.

Regardless of the photo locations, I was thrilled to be able to go this year. Last airshow I went to there was in 1967 or 1968 when it was Carswell AFB and my dad was based there.

The NAS had discontinued its air show for a while, but the new base commander reinstituted it a few years ago. As Paul said, they hold them both each year - at least for now.
