At sea in the Gulf - 05-18-2011, 08:31 PM

Critique: CC:

I am out on a boat (form of transportation) in the Gulf of Mexico doing a survey project for and E&P company. Been having some down time waiting on data so snapped a few shots. Hope yall enjoy and CC is always welcomed.

Please keep in mind that these are very low resolution (less than 100kb files) images due to limitations of internet out here.

I would say that the last one is my favorite, although we're having PPE battles at work. Therefore, the photo is evil

Overall, these are nice.

If you were using these for a rig group ... I would only want the PPE sign to be bigger.

But overall nice photos.

I shoot alot of rigs for the Oil and Gas companies for the studio I take stills and video for, but they usually involve having the workers and doing this that relate to the safety behavior of the rig/platform: PPE / JSAs / JHAs, etc.

Ray, enjoy the input. These have nothing to do with a job but are all personal. I am a Geologist and actually the Client Rep (Company Man) on the survey boat.

Nice. In that case, definitely some nice photos.

You should get a long lens and capture the wildlife you guys see of the rigs.

One time, I was on a rig in the Gulf and we were done with shooting for the day, put up our equipment, walked outside for some fresh clean air and saw a Whale passing. Timing is everything ... I need to start keeping my camera on my back all day when out on location. But long shoot days sometimes just wants you to put things away and enjoy everything away from behind a lens. :)

Without getting into incriminating detail and for my own curiosity: do you study the sea floor formations for your clients?

Thanks for the complements on the images. I only brought 2 lenses with me and one body. I have my 70-200 and 24-105 with my 5D1. I do wish i had my 300 with 2x but oh well. This was my first time going out for this company I work for so didn't wanna bring to much. The 70-200 is actually doing quite well for being so limited (see my post in the general section of the production platform). Sadly there hasn't been much for wildlife when I have been outside to look around. I am mostly in a shack behind the computer analyzing data.

My job: I do shallow hazard seismic interpretation for well drilling. Basically I analyze the seafloor and shallow section of subseafloor area for potential problems for drilling. I also go out on surveys, like the one I am on now, and also sit rigs wail they are drilling the shallow section.
