Critique: CC:

I was doing photos at a bi-weekly VW meet up that's held in Frederick, MD every other week at the Flying dog brewery and got a shot of this guy's MKVI GTI.

I was using a Speedotron 1205 pack with a 202VF head and a Photoflex Medium Halfdome strip box. The box was horizontal to the ground and I took two shots, one with the box parallel to the driver's side of the car above the car and at a 45 degree angle and a second shot with the same setup over the hood of the car. I blended the two photos together in PS.

Just like to see whateveryone thinks. I personally think the angle is a bit low and the shadow is wrong because of how I wasn't thinking when shooting this as a composite.

I love it! Might I suggest that you clone out the grass on the middle left. It creates a line extending from the bumper to the edge of the frame that make the photo look a little awkward.

Have you tried using long exposure and, say, a flashlight?

Nice job getting the white and keeping the dark surroundings. I do still have a soft spot for the GTIs.

I've never been a fan of light painting. I feel like I can control the outcome better with strobes and modifiers. If I take a shot and the light is not where I want it, I can move it in intervals to get the desired result rather than having to attempt to do the whole light painting thing again. Plus it was still light out and I would have ended up letting ambient light in with a longer exposure.

I'm picking up a 2nd Photoflex strip box and some boom stands here shortly so that I will eventually have to less in post.

That's cool. To each their own. You did a great job on this one.
