My First Car Shot - 07-23-2011, 10:01 PM

Critique: CC:

I did some senior pictures back in the spring for the young man who has this mustang. I did a few shots of just the car.

The work you guys show on this forum is amazing. Any suggestions for how to improve on what I have is welcome.

My take, the horizon line seems to give it an odd tilt. I think I'd try straightening based on the white runway lines. The nose of the car is a little dark, but good for working with the light you had. A reflector might have filled it in a little more, but I haven't tried it myself. Really need to someday! I like the warm lighting with that color car and the yellow on the plane. Cool shot.

It is a very neat concept and very nicely done. But as Keith says the little details detract a bit from it. Straighten the horizon. More critically it would have been better to shoot directly down the center of that black stripe, instead of slightly off center as you did here.

To be fair, if he shot from the center of the stripe, he would have had a slightly different shot with more of the plane being hidden from the car. He would have to rearrange it all, the OCD in me might agree with you, but it would have eaten up a good 10 minutes to recompose the shot.

Some things you have to do on the fly and hope it works well, unless you want to map out the shot ahead of time and take the sun into account as well as the positions of the cameras.

I agree with the tilt, and maybe wouldnt hurt to see a little bit more plane.

but other than that I think its a good shot!

I like it. Nice job. Just the tilt issue. Either get it perfectly straight or give it a nice tilt that looks like it was done on purpose and actually does something for your composition.

Also, if you have the photoshop skills, maybe toss in a cool sky.

Nice shot!! I agree with the tilt comments & as stated would be nice to see a little more detail on the front of the car.
