Critique: NC:

This event is held in Gladewater, TX a couple of times a year. I was at the first event and have not been there in a couple of years so it was fun to watch this again. The event is in a guys pasture on a track he cut with tractors.

The cars have a limit of $1500 ( you can spend more but you are required to sell the car for $1500 if someone wanted to buy it). Cars have to be 4 cyl, two wheel drive (front or rear is OK), and must use all weather radials.

If you want to see more images of the race click here

These are nice photos, I think you captured the event well. I just cannot get over the fact that alcohol consumption is allowed. Alcoholic consumption during any sort of driving activity -- ESPECIALLY SOME SORT OF RACE -- just seems like a very bad idea and quite unsafe. Yikes.

LOL - Did you see the cars? I don't think a race like that could happen without alcohol.

Well, yes I did. I dunno, maybe I'm being too "real" or whatever, but those are still full-sized automobiles that weigh ~2 tons and are quite capable of killing people - especially people with slow reaction times.

It's all fun and games until someone loses a cousin.

I'm just sayin' - give a bunch of rednecks a few cases of beer, some junk cars, an open dirt track - and this is pretty much what you would expect to happen. I am a little surprised that they're allowed to have glass in the windows though.

I know a few guys at work who race (not while drinking though) - and the cost limit is pretty standard for that type of event. It's an attempt to keep a relatively level playing field. You're not going to put $4000 into the engine if you know anybody there can buy the car for a set price. Sometimes this rule applies to the engine only though, not the whole car. You can spend more if you want, but you may have to sell it at a loss if you do.

I agree with both of you..fun event and expected behavior in this setting but DANGEROUS! I was hiding behind two 6 ft round bails of hay and shot with both eyes open and using a 70-200. One good thing is, as small as the track is I never saw anyone break 25 mph. Still dangerous but at least they weren't doing 60mph

Wow... You don't have to go 60 mph to kill someone with a 2 ton bullet. I am a police officer who only works fatal car crashes, and most of those are alcohol related. I have to say that I really find an event like this offensive. I have seen too many people die senseless and horrible deaths to think this is remotely fun or entertaining.

Sorry to have to bring reality into it, but that is just who I am...
