Yes, this is far north Fort Worth at the Alliance Airport. I took my son Friday to watch the Thunderbirds. I park about a half mile from the runway where they come right overhead at about 75 feet. Unfortunately, my son was a bit scared at the large metal objects buzzing us at 500+mph. I can't say I blame him. So I had to hold my 35lb two year old while also trying to hold my D300 with a 70-200mm beast attatched. Needless to say, trying to one hand that set up and pan and focus was near impossible. I haven't downloaded the pics yet as I suspect they will not be that great.

Mike, what kind of lens did you use for those shots? I am curious to know also if you bought the photo pass or where you were shooting from. Enjoyed the series. Always been a Coast Guard fan, nice grab on the helo and the motion from the blades. Its nice to see photos with the blades blured, rather then stopped when they are in the air.

Thanks for comments, everyone. The last two were with the Canon 70-300 f4-5.6 IS USM. I started off with that lens, but I'm having problems with it focusing slow. For the Thunderbirds, I switched to the older 100-300 USM. It focused faster and tended to hold focus better.

Cool shots Mike. Always a good time to see the Thunderbirds. Hoping that they will be back in Houston next year.

They announced that next year we're getting the Blue Angels in Houston.

Maybe the Blue Angels will fly the F-22 - Naaahhhh. That is the only way I will be able to see. Mike - like the first shot, nice catch. Also like the prop blur making a better shot, good job.
