1945 Airshow at Freeman Field - 10-28-2011, 12:32 PM

Critique: NC:

With all the recent postings of photos from the Wings Over Houston and other recent air shows featuring many of the old WWII planes, I thought it was ironic that I received this link from my friend...it is some old film footage from an airshow back in 1945 at Freeman Field in Indiana featuring some of the old planes that we so long to see flying in their prime timespan...hope the link works for you...below are some of the comments about the airshow...

1945 Airshow at Freeman Field, Seymour, Indiana
Great archival footage... with Glenn Miller's band. Too bad there are no captions or narration telling us who are some of the officers, like the 4 star general at the end. 10 minutes long. Attached is a 1945 airshow at Freeman Army Airfield in Indiana, featuring captured German WWII aircraft...You'll see briefly a couple of "terror weapons," the V-1 and V-2 rockets that terrorized Londoners...Also briefly, a look at the German rocket plane ME-263, Dornier bombers, the ME-109 and more...Of course, lots of familiar American WWII aircraft, plus a CG-4A glider 'snatch' by a C-47...Background music by big bands of the Forties, notably the opening Glen Miller number, "In the Mood" (from back when music was music)...Freeman Army Airfield was closed down in 1946 and is now Freeman Airport serving Seymour , Indiana ... A neat airshow video from 1945.

I enjoyed that. Gotta love those old warbirds. I can remember when they were flying for real...

Back then they had new parts for those old planes. Pretty cool.

As I viewed this film seeing some of the advanced technology that the Germans were working on (jet plane, missile rocket bombs, rocket plane and I believe I saw what looked like helicopters), you understand how critical it was for the Allied army to destroy Germany's factories and oil supply before they could put all this technology into mass production...

That is very cool Ron. Thanks for sharing. Being from Indiana, that was very interesting. Had no clue.
