Kingsbury Aerodrome - 11-21-2011, 07:28 PM

Critique: NC:

Okay, I saw some others posting their photos and thought I'd add mine. I normally fly an Aeronca Chief, but it was too windy for me so I took my friend's 172 instead. I felt a little wimpy when I saw the Tigermoth and the Pietenpol!

Some very good shots of some vintage aircraft.

Taking the photographer hat off and putting the pilot hat on here: Don't EVER feel wimpy for being conservative in an airplane. Just because someone else is doing something doesn't mean you should. They might have more experience in the airplane or conditions than you. Or they might have less experience and shouldn't be out there either. I know what you're saying though--those old airplanes have a reputation for being a handful even without the wind! My hat is off to those who can land them in a good crosswind.

Photographer hat back on now: Love the pictures. Where is this place and when does this event take place? Is it a yearly fly-in or was this an impromptu event? I wanna go too!

I appreciate your input. I know better than to let peer pressure get to me when flying a plane! I was surprised some of the guys would fly their valuable planes in that wind. I wouldn't!

It's in Kingsbury, which is near Seguin. I think he's trying to have the event twice a year. He used to do it a lot, then stopped for a few years. Check out his website here: Pioneer Flight Museum

I figured you were probably OK when it came to peer pressure just by the fact that you took the 172. It's kind of interesting to sit at an airport like Bush and watch them launch airplanes out toward a big black cloud. You'll see one after the other take off until one guy gets on the radio and says "I'm not flying into that thing. Give me a different heading or I'm not going." Then everyone else asks for the same thing.

Thanks for the heads up on the museum. I'll definitely be checking it out!

It's time for this event again. Hope to see some of you there Saturday. If the weather is good I'll fly over in the Chief or my friend's Luscombe. Pioneer Flight Museum

There's also a biplane fly-in nearby at San Marcos. Biplane Fly-In
