Central Texas Air Show (Temple) lots of shots - 05-04-2008, 11:48 AM

This was my first trek to the air show in Temple. I wish all air shows would have a crowd line that faced north. It made shooting easy the entire afternoon. It seems most shows I attend face west and shooting into the sun is not my idea of a good time.

Keith, nice clear and colorful photos. Nice to see you managed to get a couple of noisemakers at your show. For a while, I was wondering if a trip to Temple would be worthwhile or not. Looks like it was worth the trip. Hopefully, it was warmer in temple than it was in Abilene, yesterday.

Yeah, when I got there I was thinking this might be the chilliest air show I have ever been to. The 20mph wind didn't help and made it rather unpleasant. But as the afternoon wore on the wind calmed some and it warmed up. I went to the Dyess show back in 2005. It's a great show, it's just too bad it faces west.

Nice Keith, but where are the Hercules ??

Wish I didn't have other commitments yesterday. Looks like a fun trip, and one I will be interested in making next year.

Nice shots, I like the Kate with smoke behind.

Did you get any of the F-4 Phantom that was supposed to be there? Did it show?

I wanted to go to this show but didn't make it for various reasons.

Thanks Joe.

I have been burned many times with a great shot, only to have a cement mixer or a Whataburger sign in the background. So now, I try to make sure I have a good clean background if possible. I also like nice puffy white clouds at air shows.

Unfortunately, the Phantom had mechanical problems. As did the P-47.

Keith--I am so jealous of your airshow pix! I have been shooting Wings Over Houston for years and have never gotten images as clean and pretty as yours. I think Ellington is a bad place to shoot an airshow. Is the show at Temple every year? Where do I go for details because I want to go next year!

Great job Keith. So many times it looks like your shooting while flying right along side the aircraft you captured. The angles are great. Is that last one an older Russian Mig? Looks like one I saw at the Fort Worth show.

Thanks Michael! I think Temple puts that show on every year. Not sure how the show at Ellington is set up, but the show in Temple has the best possible set up for photography with its show line facing north. Shooting into the sun is a killer and it seems most shows in the DFW area (NAS Fort Worth, Alliance and Dyess in Abilene ) face west.

Here is the website to the Temple show.

And another helpful air show site.
