What is that thing? A water tank comes to mind, but I'm sure I'm wrong.

Well, tonight, its an unexpected, wire-catching, traffic disrupter! Six lanes of SH289 near Stonebriar Mall were diverted...emails were flying thruout the city...what a ruckus!

We have 2 great emailers here keeping us up to the minute. Even my client I left vmail to say I was late (and did not get my vmail) got this email, just like I did: Friscofirst E-Mail List
Preston Road Shut Down at Warren
December 20, 2008

Preston Road shut down at Warren
An oversized truck hit the power lines at Preston Road and Warren Pkwy and has caused some of the poles to lean. Traffic Engineers, the utility company and other officials are on the scene attempting repairs and remove truck. It is best to avoid the area for the near future. It has been estimated that that it may be several hours before the repairs are complete.

It seems like there is always something bringing down the power lines along Preston in Frisco!

I can't be certain from these images, but the cargo appears to be a heat exchanger. I might guess better if I could see what kind of fittings it has. If it were for the power plant that is North of Frisco, for example, I would expect a very large opening for the steam inlet. So, maybe it is for a chemical plant?

Oh, and I got the e-mail, too.

As for what it is, the only clue I have is it is (trying to proceed, anyway) southbound.

Well, this one only brought the intersection signals down, so I had some light. In fact, with all that existing light, I was going to try it without the flash, but I'm kinda at the limits of what I can manage with cold hand holding, VC/VR, and ISO noise. It was just too dark and cold to stay out there dressed completely in black, no required safety vest, and no heavy coat. I wish the EXIF data captured ambient temp and wind speed! I wasn't about to drag out a tripod and entice Frisco's Finest with my observational skills.

And, no, kids! Do not attempt this on your own. Wait until you have a lived a long and joyous life...yes, traffic was diverted miles away, but I know from first hand experience that DK's and other nutsos blow right thru the barracades and you first become a greasy spot on the road and then a less-than-well-tended roadside marker.

I've been thinking about getting a safety vest for just such a situation.
Especially since it is the law nowadays.
