Wreck of the Constellation / Montana - 12-16-2006, 02:31 PM

Wreck of the Constellation / Montana - the wreck that Peter Benchley based the book "The Deep" on.

The wreck of the Constellation sank while carrying a load of cement on deck (probably had something to do with it) - when the ship sank, the canvas bags rotted away, and the cement cured, leaving it stacked up like pillows. It was also carrying sheet glass (you can see the shards in the background) glass bottles, and of course, the famous MORPHINE AMPULES! The Montana later drifted into the wreck of the Constellation, and the two are now on top of each other.

Well, I was using a borrowed Sea and Sea Motomarine II, and a Ys-90 flash. Using Tmax ASA 100 Film.

Shooting underwater is SOOOO different than on land.. still have a ton to learn on both fronts.

I decided to petition in the "site info" forum to see if we can get an underwater sub-forum added to the "showcase". Click for the related thread.

I added my post to the petition. I think this is a great idea. My shot is of a ship, the YO-57 off the coast of Oahu.

Cool austinh20! I'm a UT kid myself.. try to get down to Mansfield dam every so often to do some deco dives. Nice rig you have there in the pic! I posted some wild camera shots in the petition thread.. (wild as in 'what the heck was this guy thinking?)...

My rig is a Canon 300D in an Ikelite housing with 2 DS 125 strobes. I'm upgrading my back this coming year with either a 5D or 40D, not sure which yet.

Daylon, we have a group that goes out to Travis every once in a while, but most of the time we head out to either the Flower Gardens or Cozumel.
