Anyone have an u/w rig I can borrow/rent? - 03-29-2007, 11:39 PM

Just curious if there's anyone out in the DFW or Austin area I can work out a deal with. Heading down in April to dive the soon-to-be-sunk Texas Clipper and really wanted to capture some wreck pics.

Ideally looking for 2 strobes + SLR + wide angle lens + Housing to borrow for a one day, 2 tank dive trip. I can bribe ya with some $$$, case of beer, ribald tales of life on the high seas, and a copy of all the pics taken?

I've shot dozens of rolls on a borrowed Sea and Sea Motormarine II, so am familiar with pre-dive / post-dive maint on u/w photo equipment. Just wanted to have the ability to shoot a hundred pics on a dive instead of 36.

Thanks!

Hi Daylon,

As you know a complete setup can cost >$5,000 so since there is a pretty high risk of flooding most people are wary of loaning them out. Not only does the camera get ruined, but the housing electronics, strobe cords, and strobes can flood too.

I usually rent my rig out for $400 per week.

Other folks you may want to hit up are Reef Photo and Video - I have rented setups from them in the past and they are great.

Cheers
James

Well, Reef Photo and Video is in Ft. Lauderdale...(according to the www site) what was the pricing like for a rental? What type of setup?

Was hoping to find a shop or an individual I could talk into letting me borrow / rent a decent rig for a day or two.

Yeah, I know these are pricey systems - housing and strobes alone can run over 5 grand, even before you had the dome ports and SLR and lens...

I can always borrow my friends motomarine II and shoot film, was just trying to have access to something a little more powerful and thought this would be a decent place to start..

D.
