First try at U/W - 04-23-2007, 02:19 PM

I just received the underwater housing for my Canon S500 and gave it a try this weekend in Lake Travis.

Nothing great to show, but the camera worked and no leaks. The third one is a catfish that got a bit too close to the camera.

Cool, a great start! As you've learned - if you want to make a good underwater photo the subject has to be close.

Cheers
James

Thanks James,

Unfortunately the S500 doesn't allow me to manually set the exposure speed and the exposures were a bit too long, causing some blur due to the ambient light. I had set the EC to -1 and may need to go to -2.

I was only using the internal flash, though I did buy a SeaLife 960D strobe for future use. I'm planning on taking a U/W photography course offered by a local scuba shop in a couple of weeks, which will give me the chance to try out the camera and strobe in clear water (Aquarena Springs).
