I've fished a lot of lakes in Texas, and it is one of the clearest lakes in Texas. Travis is pretty clear as well. Unfortunatly, when I was there this weekend it was a little cloudy and the visibility wasn't as great as it usually is. Typically you can see down to about 15ft almost everywhere on the lake, and in some spots (main lake) I've seen as far down as 26ft (depth finder told me it was 26ft and I could see the bottom!)

Lake Amistad is about 8 miles northwest of Del Rio, or about a 2 1/2 hour drive west on Hwy 90 from San Antonio.

Not only does it have clear water, but I think it is one of the most beautiful lakes in all of Texas (I may be bias since I grew up there, but I have fished A LOT of Texas lakes). There are so many photographic opportunities on Amistad.

cool pics....was over there diving last weekend. Viz was a little down, but I agree it's an awesome lake. Big, clean and rarely crowded.

When were you there? This last weekend (July 7-8)? Where did you dive at?

I've been wanting to dive out there for a long time, but don't know anyone there to dive with when I'm down there.

Yes I was there the 7 and 8th, usually go once a month during the summer . I was diving at Good Enough Springs, which is west of Box Canyon about 5 miles. It's cave on the bottom of the lake but it usually has really good viz....it is however a very technical dive.

Wouldn't mind doing some diving in other spots around the lake though.

Here's the kinda viz you usaully get in the spring (not for the last month though).

As opposed to the lake above the springs

Sweet pictures!! I could never cave dive...

I grew up in Del Rio and fished the lake for as long as I remember, but never really fished that far up river until recently. Are the springs on the Mexican or American side of the lake? I've heard of it, but never knew where it was.

it on the US side. There are lots of good sites all around the lake...wish it was a little closer so i could spend more time exploring

How far down are the springs? Did you see a lot of fish hanging out by them?

The cave entrance is about 150'. This last weekend the flow was raging. Here is a little more about our work if your interested. I see alot of catfish hanging out. The local fisherman told me they have caught some good stripper there recently but they are real spooky so I never see them on the dive.

A fisherman grabbed me once and gave me a few bucks to try and find a rood/reel he had lost near by...never found it but saw some monster largemouth....would have loved to hook into them with one of those Senkos your buddy was throwing in your pics.

That Goodenough Springs Project looks like some really cool work, although I could never do it! Also, 300' down, you guys are crazy!! Do you see any life in the caves? I'm currently getting my M.S. in fisheries ecology so your type of work interests me, although I would never do it!

there are catfish that hang out around the entrance and even venture into the cave down to about the 190' mark...haven't seen much past that.

Yeah Senkos are great for catching fish but they do fall apart pretty easy......
